Peter Sutherland started photographing in New York City in the late 1990s, developing an interest in subcultures and what exists beyond structures of power and conventional systems of visibility. Over the years, he began collaging his photographs, bringing together the diversity of places and experiences that have shaped his life.
This book presents over a decade of photographic practice documenting a plural, multifaceted America, shaped by movement and parallel narratives. Peter’s work resists the standardization that defines much of today’s consumer culture. Through accumulated fragments, handmade gestures, and lived experiences, it expresses a desire to reconnect—with community, with place, and with a more direct relationship to the world.
